Holy Hell, Nile Drummer George Kollias’ New Solo Track Rips Faces!
You’re probably most familiar with George Kollias as the man who’s held down the drum throne in Nile for the past ten years, or perhaps for being tragically left off the MetalSucks list of the Top 25 Modern Metal Drummers (George, if you’re reading this, sorry sorry sorry! Drinks are on me next time Nile play NYC). Kollias has also appeared on albums by Nightfall, Tyr and several other metal acts, and he’s an in-demand drum clinician the world over.
This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given how talented Kollias is behind the kit, but it turns out he’s just as skilled at everything else: he plays all the instruments on his new solo album Invictus, which is coming May 19th via Season of Mist.
A BS vanity project by a drummer trying to expand his repertoire this is certainly not: “Shall Rise / Shall Be Dead,” which premiered today on Lambgoat, fucking RIPS. This is death metal, pure and simple: it’s like if Nile, Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, Rotting Christ and Septicflesh were all rolled into one vicious, horrifying, gnarly cesspool of filth and left to rot for all eternity. It’s exactly what I want out of my death metal, all the time. Also: serious guitar solo! Nice work, George.
