Exclusive Track Premiere: Spylacopa’s “Handmade Flaws”
We’re not sure when Spylacopa‘s “Handmade Flaws” was actually recorded, but regardless: it’s the first newly-released song to feature vocalist Julie Christmas (ex-Made Out of Babies, ex-Battle of Mice) since 2010. That’s a big, BIG deal, in more ways than one: Spylacopa, which was founded by Candiria’s John LaMacchia and includes Jeff Caxide (ex-Isis), would have a prestigious lineage even without the participation of Christmas. Her involvement is just, like, the sweetest icing on the cake ever.
Indeed, it takes only seconds of hearing Christmas sing over the dreamy-yet-angular music to reconfirm that, yes, she is one of the best singers out there today. Is she possessed? Her vocals can go from babyish and sensitive to vicious and terrifying on a dime, as though Björk and Aileen Wuornos were sharing a single set of vocal chords. But regardless of what she’s doing, it always… hits you… right in the fucking gut. Her delivery feels authentic and visceral in ways most vocalists can only dream about.
MetalSucks is SO STOKED to be premiering “Handmade Flaws,” which you can check out below.
