And the Lineup for the 2015 Rockstar Mayhem Festival is…
The PRP, who is almost always right about this sort of thing, has “exclusively heard some credible rumors” as to who will be on this year’s lineup for the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Those bands are:
Slayer
King Diamond
HELLYEAH
The Devil Wears Prada
Whitechapel
Thy Art Is Murder
We’ve also yet to receive any official confirmation on these rumors, so we’ll just have to sit pat to see how this all shakes out. The PRP also reports that a total of 12 bands is expected to comprise the lineup this year.
If true, that’s certainly an interesting lineup. It continues Mayhem Fest’s tradition of mixing legacy acts with younger ones, and though it’s still way too early to say what’ll happen with regards to the second stage, it seems as if the festival is continuing to lean more towards metal’s mainstream.
The most interesting bit is King Diamond’s inclusion. The King went on a massively successful, month-long North American tour this past fall, so apparently the fest’s organizers think he’s a good bet to bring in the older crowd, and that he’s healthy enough for a tour of this length and intensity. They’re certainly not wrong with respect to the former: the public appetite for The King is at an all-time high. With respect to the latter, who knows, but the fall tour seems to go well enough.
The real question here is this: are Slayer and Kind Diamond true headliners capable of pulling in the masses? On the surface they don’t seem to have as universal a draw as past headliners Slipknot, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Disturbed, Rob Zombie and Avenged Sevenfold. But it’s possible Slayer are up to the task, and it’s also possible a headliner announcement is still on the way. Slipknot are doing a tour of their own this summer, which is sure to provide stiff competition.
More as we get it. An official announcement is scheduled for April 13th.
