Megadeth Auditioning Guitarists
Now that we’ve established that Marty Friedman and Nick Menza aren’t returning to Megadeth, we can begin to wonder who will be the band’s latest future former lead guitarist. One thing seems certain, based on this tweet from Dave Mustaine: it is not Chris Poland, or any other past member of the band returning to the fold
I’m excited to be auditioning one of my final picks for my new guitarist today.

Who could it be? I’d be delighted if it was one of my fantasy draft picks, but other than Emil Werstler, none of them really seem plausible (especially in light of the fact that they’re being made to audition — a process dudes like Dan Spitz and Jeff Loomis would not be subjected to at this point in their careers). Some other names of young, up n’ coming metal guitarists who would be good for this gig spring to mind, but at this point, it doesn’t seem like there’s really any value in blindly speculating… so I won’t! Meanwhile, still no word on the drummer sitch… but the band (or whatever version of the band exists right now) hits the studio next week, according to Mustaine:
One more week! Load in for the next record starts 3/17. So pumped!! — Dave Mustaine (@DaveMustaine) March 10, 2015
Given that drums are the first thing covered during the recording process, it seems to safe to assume that the band has locked someone down, either for the permanent gig or just as a session player. So, fingers crossed, we’ll know more about the new members of Megadeth sooner rather than later.
