Shadows Fall’s Matt Bachand Joins Broderick/Drover/Bonner Band
As they’ve been hinting for a few weeks now, the new, still-unnamed project from former Megadeth members Chris Broderick (guitars) and Shawn Drover (drums) and former Scar the Martyr vocalist Henry Derek Bonner has found its bassist: Matt Bachand, of Shadows Fall fame.
Of course, Bachand played guitar for SF. He temporarily played bass for Hatebreed in 2013, so the instrument switch isn’t 100% out of the blue (to say nothing of the fact that the leap from guitar to bass isn’t very big in the first place). Still, it’s interesting that he’s joining as a bassist, because it suggests that there will be no second guitarist in the band. Broderick is probably still traumatized from having to work out parts with Dave Mustaine for six years.
Also interesting: this continues the trend of Shadows Fall members joining classic thrash acts (guitarist Jon Donais is now in Anthrax, and drummer Jason Bittner is now in Flotsam and Jetsam). Okay okay okay, so the Broderick/Drover/Bonner/Bachand band obviously isn’t classic, and we have no idea if they’re gonna be playing thrash or what (although I don’t think anyone is expecting them to make, like, a deathcore record or whatever). But still! The trend basically stands!!!
Presumably, the band will be announcing their name, label, and debut album details soonish. Stay tuned…
