Black Star Raskulinecz: Loud Music’s Hottest Producer Stoops To Not-Thin-Lizzy
Any music listener will track producers and their projects, on purpose or not. Some dudes will seek out that info, read interviews with non-performers, and aspie rage about that time Terry Date produced Limp Bizkit. But for everyone else, all it takes is to notice the same names in the credits of a few albums, then you begin getting a sense of what those works share. From that, you extrapolate the character of a producer. It just happens.
Okay, so with that in our mind-type things, let’s consider producer Nick Raskulinecz. His most recent projects are the newest albums from Mastodon, Rush, Ghost, and Deftones — and a couple platinum bands and hipster icons in there too — so we can tell a bit about him: He’s big time. He produces important albums. His bands are happening. $$$$$.
So you might wonder why the heck Raskulinecz worked on The Killer Instinct by Black Star Riders. Big time et c. they are not — good though they are. But the point is that we’re allowed a double-take when we see his huge name on the record by the band formerly known as “Thin Lizzy with one original member.” Then again, BSR’s debut was produced by expensive Kevin Shirley, and this second one almost was produced by Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, so who tf knows, maybe BSR pays well or hangs hard. Whatever, everybody wins when a band that needs a great producer gets one. Crank it:
Black Star Riders’ The Killer Instinct ugh that title is out February 24 via Nuclear Blast. Pre-order here.
