So I Guess Kevin Talley is in Suffocation Now?
Two years ago, drummer Mike Smith split with Suffocation, whereupon he was replaced by Dave Culross, who was a logical choice because he already replaced Smith once before. Then Culross had to miss some shows at the end of 2013, whereupon he was temporarily replaced by Kevin Talley, who was logical choice because he has played with almost every death metal band of note ever. Except I guess he wasn’t actually so temporary a replacement after all, because these updates popped up on Suffo’s Facebook page last night:
As far as I’m aware, the band never made any previous announcement that Talley was now in for good and Culross was now out for good. And given how much session work Talley does, it’s possible he’s playing on the album but is not a full-fledged Suffocationer. But it’s clear that Culross doesn’t have anything to do with the next Suffo release.
Personally, I’m fine having Talley play on the record and (possibly) becoming an official member of this band because, well… he’s Kevin fuckin’ Talley! He’s one of the best metal drummers out there, and pretty much anyone would be lucky to have him. I guess I just don’t understand why the news was kept under wraps.
Regardless: Suffocation are working on new material! HUZZAH!!!
