Chart of the Most Widely Used Metal Band Names: Results Aren’t What You’d Expect!

Good news/bad news! The good news: a Reddit user who goes by the handle darinhq made the below chart of the most widely used names for metal bands, which should theoretically be very helpful for anyone looking to come up with a cool band name and be easy to find via search engines. The bad news: the chart only covers bands with one-word names. So words like “blood,” “death,” “hate,” “kill,” “skull,” and other popular selections actually rank way lower than you’d expect.

So maybe this will deter you from naming your band “Genocide” (although you really should not need a list like this to figure out that the word “Genocide” by itself is not a particularly memorable band name), but it’s still on you not to name your band Hate Kill or Blood Hate or Hate Death or Hate Hate or whatever. Seriously, fuckers, look at a free online thesaurus, and keep in mind that it doesn’t even matter if your band name makes zero sense. I still don’t know what the fuck Stomach Earth means, for example, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying their album!
