Glenn Fricker’s Video About How to Solder Could Not Be Hotter
My first guitar was a $200 Mexican-made Fender Stratocaster with a rosewood neck. A beautiful instrument, given the price and the purpose (e.g., for a dumb kid to try and learn how to play like Slash), but after a few years with it, a problem arose: a wire inside the guitar would CONSTANTLY come loose, and as a result, it wouldn’t connect properly to my amp. I took the guitar to the repair shop once, where the nice guitar dude kindly showed me how to open up the guitar and solder the wire back into place, but I guess my soldering skills were lacking, because the fucking thing still detached on a regular basis.
If only things like YouTube instructional videos by Spectre Sound Studios‘ Glenn Fricker had existed back then, I could have saved myself a trip to the store and probably gotten a better lesson in the high art of soldering. The good news is, such a video exists now! Watch it below, courtesy of Gear Gods. Soldering is a very practical skill regardless of whether you do or do not engage in musical activities which might require it, so don’t go “Oh, fuck this, I’m just a dumb bass player, someone else will take care of it.
