Watching Rivers of Nihil’s “Mechanical Trees” Video Would Be a Bright Idea

We expect death metal videos to look like they were filmed in a serial killer’s basement — which is what makes the bright, sterile aesthetic of the new David Brodsky-directed video for Rivers of Nihil’s “Mechanical Trees” so damned interesting. There’s actually something kinda unsettling about watching these dudes rip it up against a blinding background. We’ve seen death metal videos that place the band in some ironically un-metal scenarios before, in order to exploit those scenarios for laughs — but this clip is 100% sincere. Compound that with the video’s masterful framing and editing and the fact that Rivers of Nihil, y’know, FUCKING RULE, and you’ve got something that’s a step or two above your average so-called “warehouse” video.
