Mors Principium Est are the Bartolo Colon of Melodeath
If Unearth are the Slayer of metalcore, then Mors Principium may be the Slayer of melodeath. Though they didn’t invent the genre and they’re not often credited as being at the top of it, they’ve been putting out consistently ass-ripping and mercifully non-cheesy melodic death metal records since 2003’s Inhumanity, just the first in an unrelentingly solid stream of albums since. There are no surprises with this band — you know that Mors Principium Est aren’t really going to throw you many curveballs, but that low-90s fastball will dart and dance around home plate with precision and it’ll catch you looking every time. So let’s call them the Bartolo Colon of melodeath. Except they’re probably better hitters.
MPE’s latest, Dawn Of The Fifth Era, will come out on December 2nd via AFM Records, and our first taste comes in music video form with “Monster in Me.” Yup, that’s Mors Principium Est alright! Minus the weight problem and batting helmet snafus.
