Jewish Grandpa Larry King Interviews Slipknot’s Corey Taylor About His Mask
When my grandfather was still alive and pushing 95 years old we’d talk on the phone once every few weeks and he’d grill me about what I was doing in life. Very specific questions that were born of a lack of understanding of… the modern world, basically. KIDS TODAY! Not that he was demented, or had lost any mental capacities — he was sharp until the day he died — but all my answers had to be boiled down to their most simple core. I loved the guy, he was a huge influence, don’t get me wrong, but these conversations could be quite tedious. He didn’t make it into the MetalSucks era, but when I was working at Atlantic Records I think I just told him that I made websites for bands, which is not at all what I did. Not that it mattered — he was a proud Jewish grandpa! All you Jews out there know what I’m talking about.
Anyway, watching Larry King grill Corey Taylor about the mask he wears in Slipknot — why does he wear such masks? does he wear them the whole show? doesn’t it get hot in there? oy! — brings me back to those conversations. Taylor, for his part, handles ’em like a champ despite King’s confusion.
Side notes: 1) Larry King is old! Jeez. 2) Holy crap, Slipknot on Larry King… some publicist deserves a raise.
