Decapitated Members Okay Following “Serious” Van Accident
I am starting to think that vehicles do not like Decapitated.
There was, of course, their tragic tour bus accident in 2007, which killed drummer Witold “Vitek” Kiełtyka and left vocalist Adrian “Covan” Kowanek with limb paralysis, which has denied him the ability to move or communicate freely. That horrible event should have given Decapitated a karmic free pass, but no: in 2011, they were in a plane crash, which, luckily, injured none of them. And as if that still wasn’t shitty enough, on Saturday, this happened (via the band’s Facebook page):
“Decapitated was involved in a serious van accident on Friday afternoon on their way to a show in House of Blues, New Orleans, LA. We are all ok (two persons were hospitalized and released after a few hours) and we will continue our tour with American Sharks and GWAR. This time we were lucky.”
I don’t believe in a higher power, but the fact that everyone emerged from this crashed relatively unscathed seems like some kind of miracle, doesn’t it?
Even more miraculous: the band’s willpower. It’s hard to imagine that this crash wasn’t particulary traumatic for guitarist Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka, the sole remaining member of the band who was also in the 2007 accident, and the brother of the late Vitek. The fact no one in the band’s reaction was “Fuck this, I’m going home” is a true testament to how much these dudes care about their music and their fans.
You can get all of Decapitate’s upcoming tour dates here. Buy a shirt; if you see them around the venue, buy them a beer or twenty. These dudes are troopers, and they deserve all the support we can give ’em.
