Coming Soon: The Illustrated Tales! of Celtic Frost
It’s funny that you can be sick to death of hearing about the slightest movements of a current band, yet also hunger for the little details of the fortunes and misfortunes of pre-internet bands. Especially the awesome ones, like Celtic Frost, whose history includes groundbreaking and gravedigging in equal measure. Their story would definitely bear a feature documentary, but would the shortage of archival photos and footage (presumably) mean that most of the movie would be pictures of gross old metal guys talking shit while gesticulating? That wouldn’t really capture the tone of The Celtic Frost Saga.
But behold illustrator Mark Rudolph and his new comic, Morbid Tales! A Tribute To Celtic Frost. It’s like 155 pages of tattoo-worthy illustrations by like 50 artists, forwards by Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates) and Ivan Bjornson (Enslaved), and anecdotes and analysis (presumably) from members of Autopsy, Mayhem, Repulsion, Obituary, Paradise Lost, Napalm Death, Darkthrone, Neurosis, and more. Sounds rad, right? Below check out the trailer, itself a conveyance of excitement via 90 seconds of Phil Anselmo singing “The Usurper” from the book’s accompanying covers record (um presumably).
Morbid Tales! A Tribute To Celtic Frost book comes out November 14 via Corpse Flower and CV Books. Pre-order here.
