Toothgrinder Now Grinding Teeth with Spinefarm (Also: New Track!)
New Jersey’s Toothgrinder sound precisely like what you’d hope a band with that name would sound like: visceral, churning, meaty, tech-y post-hardcore ala Botch and The Dillinger Escape Plan. But here’s where things take a slight left turn: Toothgrinder seem to have found a way to infuse all that with a sense of unstoppable, infectious groove and an understated sense of melody. I don’t think there’s any doubt that vocalist Justin Matthews calls Mike Patton an influence, and, come to think of it, Faith No More might not be a bad touchstone: if a modern-day version of FNM broke into the scene today, they might sound just like Toothgrinder.
I tell you all this right now because Toothgrinder just signed with Spinefarm Records and released a new track called “The Hour Angle.” Stream it below. The Schizophrenic Jubilee EP comes out on November 4th. Catch Toothgrinder live on tour right now with Periphery, The Contortionist and Intervals: dates here.
