Members and Ex-Members of Cynic, Exivious and Textures Team Up in New Band Mourn; Sounds Completely Different Than What You’re Expecting
Presumably you think you know exactly what you’re in for given the cast of characters involved in the new Dutch supergroup Mourn: founding member and bassist Robin Zielhorst (ex-Cynic, Ex-Blue Man Group, Exivious), Thomas Frankhuijzen (March), guitarist Kas Kluitman and vocalist Pieter Verpaalen (ex-Texures).
But you’re wrong. Mourn are nothing like the sum of their proggy, experimental parts, instead opting for something completely different, simpler, and way more down-to-earth than the bands for which their members are known. Mourn are quite self-aware about what they are and are not, and they’ve got a refreshingly humorous take on their sound too:
In late 2013, MOURN decided to bring nothing new. Since everything already had been done before, and everything else wouldn’t be worth making, these brave young men decided to do something entirely different: to acknowledge their total lack of cutting edge. Trying not to copy other bands, this band makes a mixture of Metal, Rock and Blues like a lot of other bands before them. Bands you of course have heard of, going from Pantera and Down to Black Sabbath and Black Label Society.
And that right there is pretty much all you need to know about Mourn. Bravo, A++++ WDBWA band bio!!! Honesty counts. If all band bios were this straight-forward my job would be a lot easier.
