“Til Endes:” Khold’s Return is Frosty Indeed
At the too-infrequently-traveled crossroads of black metal and rock and roll lies Khold, the long-running Norwegian outfit that’s been dormant since 2008’s Hundre år gammal. Band mastermind Sarke has released three albums under his own name with Darkthrone’s Nocturno Culto during that time period, but now it’s back to business with Til endes, which Khold will put out through Peaceville on September 29th.
The title track finds Khold doing what they do best: razor-sharp black metal-inspired riffs in a mid-tempo, catchy rock and roll shell, but not without the requisite frostiness that a band like this demands. The clear production, too rare in this genre, highlights the track’s intricacies but doesn’t detract from its raw power in the slightest.
