David Lee Roth and John 5 Wrote and Recorded a New Album Together!
Stop the presses: David Lee Roth and John 5 have not only collaborated on a new album together, but it’s already been recorded, done, just waiting to be released. Holy shit! The revelation came from John 5 himself in an interview with Canadian journalist Mitch Lafon.
David Lee Roth, of course, worked with John 5 on 1998’s DLR Band, an album that has inexplicably flown under my radar all this time. John 5 is one of the best guitarists working today (Diamond Dave always had a knack for discovering new, young talent) and my fanship of Van Halen knows no bounds, so it’s really quite shocking I’ve never listened to their collaboration before… but there you have it. On the plus side, there’s no time like your first time, and these songs fucking rip:
So, another DLR album with John 5 on guitar? Fuck yes: it’s exactly what DLR needs right now, and John 5 would completely bring it, I have no doubt. The album was recorded a year and a half ago (!), meaning DLR’s been hanging onto it until the time is right. Greg Bissonette played drums on it, because of course. Here’s to hoping it sees the light of day before year’s end.
