Dave Mustein’s Best of 2014… So Far
Another year, another bunch of lists. It’s cool to compare these to past lists and see how our personal and collective tastes have changed – makes you wonder what we’ll be listening to in ten years. Though it doesn’t have the same big-name releases as 2013, 2014 is killing it in the underground, especially in terms of exotically-flavored blackness. And we’ve still got upcoming releases from Inanimate Existence, Pallbearer, and YOB to look forward to. It’s gonna be a gloomy summer.
Artificial Brain – Labyrinth Constellation (Profound Lore)
The Body/The Haxan Cloak – I Shall Die Here (RVNG)
Cognizance – Cognizance (Self-released)
Destrage – Are You Kidding Me? No. (Metal Blade)
Gridlink – Longhena (Handshake Inc)
Hexis – Abalam (Halo of Flies)
Inferi – The Path of Apotheosis (The Artisan Era)
Lord Mantis – Death Mask (Profound Lore)
The Mire – Glass Cathedrals (Self-released)
Psalm Zero – The Drain (Profound Lore)
Pyrrhon – The Mother Of Virtues (Relapse)
Thantifaxath – Sacred White Noise (Dark Descent)
Tombs – Savage Gold (Relapse)
Triptykon – Melana Chasmata (Century Media)
Wings Denied – Mirrors For a Prince (Self-released)
Also, not quite metal, but WIFE’s debut album What’s Between (James Kelly/Altar of Plagues) is excellent.
