Xibalba/Suburban Scum Split (Your Skull Wide F*ckin’ Open)

That Xibalba’s contributions to their new split with Suburban Scum, “Death Threat” and “Suicide Note,” are total fucking beasts that conjure thoughts of curb moshing (where you curb stomp someone via a wicked mosh) doesn’t surprise; for one thing, we’ve already heard the former song, and for another thing, it’s fuckin’ Xibalba.

But I wasn’t really familiar with Suburban Scum (why didn’t they just call themselves People Who Actually Enjoy Living in the Suburbs?), so the fact that their tracks on the split also rip is a nice bonus (also, who doesn’t love discovering awesome music?). Musically, what the two bands are doing aren’t that different — it’s their approach makes the two acts different. Whereas Xibalba sounds deep n’ muddy, Suburban Scum sounds corrosive and sharp. Either way… metal fans win!
