Goatwhore’s Ben Falgoust Says You Should Listen to Vallenfyre
Goatwhore’s Ben Falgoust absolutely RAVED about Vallenfyre’s new album Splinters when Chuck and Godless interviewed him on last week’s MetalSucks Podcast. Like, pretty much couldn’t stop talking about how much he liked it. Well, it worked on at least one listener: I hadn’t checked out the album yet — nor had I paid much attention to their 2011 debut A Fragile King — but on account of Falgoust’s recommendation I decided to give it a shot. And whoa!
The band features Paradise Lost guitarist Gregor Mackintosh, My Dying Bride guitarist Hamish Glencross and At the Gate’s drummer Adrian Erlandsson, so it’s no wonder it’s doomy and heavy — I just didn’t expect it to be THIS heavy. And, although it’s weird to admit, I didn’t expect it to be this modern-sounding; instead of coming off as a ’90s doom retread it fits in seamlessly in the modern doom scene.
The video for the title track, below, is a great place to start. Let us know what you think. Splinters comes out tomorrow and can be ordered here.
