Once More ‘Round the Mastodon Album Artwork

Mastodon have unveiled the cover art for their new album, Once More ‘Round the Sun, and it… is… INSANE. Created by the artist known only as Skinner (Holy Grail, Black Cobra), it looks like someone dropped a bunch of acid and went to a Chinese New Year parade. Check it out:

“Here’s the cover to the new MASTODON album I did.. It’s actually a huge pullout with3 more panels that sort of tell the universal story of life and death. Get the vinyl and see the whole thing. This album is incredible and I’m really honored to have been asked to do this with the mastodon boys. They are incredible artists and explorative spirits. Always moving. Always changing and I love them! I will post the whole thing but it will be hard to see cuz it will be all small! Hagaha!!! Maybe one at a time.”

So I think we can all agree that Mr. Skinner deserves a round of applause, no?

Meanwhile, The PRP reports the band has also released an “audio visualizer” for the album’s first single, “High Road,” I guess in case your computer’s visualizer just isn’t stoner-y enough for you. Smoke ’em if you got ’em…
