Machine Head Vlog 2 (Inch Tape)

Is recording to 2″ tape coming back? No. No, not at all. Still, it’s interesting that Slash and, according to their new production vlog, now Machine Head have both opted to use this old-timey technology for the creation of their new albums. I could see this becoming a trend amongst certain. Again, it won’t mean the end of the digital recording era — Machine Head are still using Pro Tools, can still do punch-ins, etc. — but if it makes everything sound that much less smooth and perfect, I’m all for it. I miss the days when you could hear a guitar player’s grimy fingers sliding all over the fret board.
