Napalm Death Cover Cardiacs
Cardiacs mastermind Tim Smith isn’t doing so well these days — the fifty-two-year-old multi-instrumentalist had a joint heart attack/stroke in 2010, a trauma from which he is still recovering.
That’s obviously an awful ordeal through which to suffer, to say nothing of the monetary cost of rehabilitation from such an affliction. But at least now Smith will have a little extra help from some very special fans — specifically, Napalm Death.
The grind pioneers have recorded a cover of the Cardiacs song “To Go Off and Things,” which, according to their Bandcamp page, was “recorded in tribute to the man (and the band) but also as a humble gesture to raise funds for Tim’s ongoing rehabilitation.” You can stream the cover below or, better still, just buy it here — it’s only £1 ($1.66), and it’s for a worthy cause. And that’s to say nothing of the fact that it’s, y’know, awesome. It’s still vaguely recognizable as the original Cardiacs tune, but the band definitely put their own spin on the material. This may also be the first time Napalm Death have ever made something longer — their version of the track has a 2:32 running time, in contrast to the original’s 2:13.
ANYWAY, here’s the Napalm Death cover…
…and here’s the original, which has one of the most insane videos ever:
