Today in Not-Quite-Metal: New Videos by The Intersphere and Biblical
The Intersphere and Biblical have released two of my favorite albums of 2014 so far and neither one is really that heavy. Am I growing soft in my old age? Hmm.
I’ve been raving about The Intersphere’s new album Relations in the Unseen for weeks now. A quick reminder: for fans of heavy-but-not-quite-metal bands like Dredg, Muse, Biffy Clyro, etc. Their new video for “Out of Phase” is a true storyline clip — none of the band-members appear in it — and though said storyline is a bit trite (spoiler alert: it turns out that the guy torturing the poor protogonist’s soul is HIMSELF!) it’s still an entertaining accompaniment to a good song.
I’ve been raving about Biblical’s new album Monsoon Season for quite a while as well. The video for “All Justice No Peace” makes its debut at Paste Magazine and it’s got a decidedly DIY approach (especially compared to The Intersphere’s, above) that I really dig. The occasional self-shot of the camerawoman somehow serves to make the video’s events seem even more real rather than taking the viewer out of the moment… like, this is a crazy party, people are always filming stuff anyway, and you just happened to be there too. Plot-wise, I knew shit was gonna get real as soon as those jumper cables made an appearance early on.
