Here’s a Full List of Metal-Related Releases for Record Store Day 2014
Record Store Day might seem on the surface to be a manufactured “holiday” that props up a dying art form. And, well, to some degree it certainly is. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t awesome! Record Store Day provides fans with the opportunity to purchase rare collectors items and indulge in that age-old ritual and excitement of going to a record store and buying something they’ve been anticipating, and it provides the stores that participate a serious boon in income. The owner of an independent record store that specializes in metal vinyl recently told me that not only is Record Store Day by far his biggest grossing day of the year, but the ripples and buzz it generates keep going for months afterwards.
Record Store Day 2014 will fall on Saturday, April 19th, and as usual there’s quite a healthy selection of metal that’ll be available. Mastodon and Between the Buried and Me will both be releasing live albums exclusive to Record Store Day and Machine Head will be releasing their new track, while Opeth, Type O Negative and Slipknot will all be releasing certain albums of theirs on vinyl for the first time. That’s just a sampling. There are several other exclusives as well, in addition to a slew of vinyl reissues that are being re-released on Record Store Day just because.
