Unsigned and Unholy: Plebeian Grandstand, A Lonely Crowd, Contemplator
Plebeian Grandstand play some vicious stuff! They’d make a perfect opening act for a dream bill featuring Portal, Ulcerate and Gojira. They’re from France, because of course. And while they’re signed to Lost Pilgrims Records (with a vinyl release through Throatruiner) we’re gonna give ’em a mulligan here because you absolutely most hear this band. Order new album Lowgazers here, out March 31.

The email that introduced us to Contemplator came with a derpy picture of a cat and informed us that the band features ex-members of Augury, so how could we ignore it? This is excellent technical death metal that isn’t too big on the “tech” side, if you catch my drift — there’s a ton to grab onto here, not just riff salad. Stream the self-titled EP below via Bandcamp.
A Lonely Crowd don’t have much to do with metal, but they’ve got some pseudo-heavy prog weirdness going on that some MS readers might dig, so F it. They’re signed to Bird’s Robe Records, but I haven’t heard of that label… so we award another mulligan. Stream new album Transients in full here.
