In Flames Featured in New Volvo Advertisement
Volvo are a Swedish company, so it’s no surprise they’ve got some metal in their blood fuel lines. In January we saw some extremely metal-looking sketches of a new Volvo concept car by famed metal illustrator Mark Riddick, commissioned by Volvo. And now this: In Flames in the new Volvo ad!
Much like Deafheaven in the iPhone 5c ads that ran last fall, an In Flames album cover (and song title) appear in the new Volvo ad on a digital display, in this case Apple’s new voice- and touch-activated CarPlay OS (basically an extension of your iPhone built into your car’s dashboard). No In Flames music plays in the ad — although we find the accompanying piano plinking quite pleasant — but we still appreciate the nod to metal, Sweden’s greatest cultural export this side of those special meatballs. I like to think that a metalhead on the ad’s production team just snuck in the In Flames album without anyone else knowing, although it was probably much more orchestrated than that. We bemoan said metalhead’s choice of In Flames album — Sounds of a Playground Fading? Come on, dude. — but we’ll still take it.
And holy crap, why has it taken this long to get an iPhone built into a car dashboard?? Need. Now.
