Mastodon May Follow-Up Summer LP with a Winter EP
Are you stoked for the new Mastodon album? Well, this oughta make you stokeder: the band has wound up with an overabundance of new material — fifteen songs, to be precise — and are considering not only releasing a new full-length, but a new EP, as well. Drummer Brann Dailor tells Spin:
“Isn’t it weird that only one member of our band has a name that DOESN’T start with the letter ‘b’?”
No, wait, that’s not right. Dailor tells Spin:
“It’s gonna be a summer release, so I feel like it needs to be amped,. I don’t feel like it needs to be slow, and doom and gloom. That’s a winter album. We were actually talking about that earlier, like, ‘Why don’t we take some of the stuff that’s really moody and slow and do, like, a winter EP?’”
So there’s a possibility that we’ll end up with two new Mastodon releases this year, or, at least, within a twelve month timeframe. I’m sure no one would object.
Read the entire Spin piece here. Dailor also describes the music the band’s been recording, which films influenced the album, etc.
