And the New Guitarist for Lacuna Coil is…
NOBODY!
That’s right: the band has opted not to replace co-guitarist Cris “Pizza” Migliore, whose departure from the band was announced last week. Instead, Marco “Maus” Biazzi, the band’s other guitar player, will perform both parts live on the group’s upcoming tour. Meanwhile, drummer Cristiano “CriZ” Mozzati, who also left the band last week, will be replaced by Ryan “Italianot” Folden, who played with the band “on the majority of the 2012 and 2013 ‘Dark Legacy’ and ‘Dark Adrenaline’ tours,” according to their Facebook page.
So I guess that’s why’s Migliore and Mozzati were standing on outer edges of the band’s most recent promo photo — so they’d be super-easy to crop out.
ANYWAY, I’m not entirely sure how this one-guitarist-playing-two-parts thing is gonna work. Biazzi could be accompanied by a tape, or the band could be stripping down the songs just a little, à la The Red Chord. And, yes, I believe that is the first time Lacuna Coil have ever been compared to The Red Chord.
But here’s the question which is really nagging at me: does the decision not to replace Migliore only bolster the argument of jerks like me who assert that nobody cares about any member of this band save for Cristina Scabbia… or does it actually work against that argument, since it could be considered “retiring Migliore’s number,” so to speak? Discuss amongst yourselves.
