Cinemetal Round-Up: New Videos from Scorpion Child, Kill Devil Hill, Jason Newsted, Savage Messiah, and Chrome Division
I’m going to put about as much effort into this introduction as The Faceless put into avoiding line-up changes.
We begin today with Scorpion Child’s new animated video for the song “King’s Highway.” It’s not bad. It’s never boring or anything. I doubt I’ll remember it in a week, though. Honestly, the quality of the song helps the rest of the clip a whole bunch. I guess that’s an uptown problem if ever there was one.
Next up is Kill Devil Hill’s new clip, for the tune “Leave it All Behind.” See, now, THIS is a boring video. Sheesh. I’d say it needs more narrative and less of the band playing in an empty lot, but the narrative honestly isn’t all that interesting, either.
Just in time to capitalize on all the Australian tour/Megadeth drama, Jason Newsted has a released a new video for his song “…As the Crow Flies.” If I could ask the director of this clip one question, it would be, “Why is the whole thing the color of used mouthwash?” And the only answer I would accept is, “Because the lyrics to this song are ridiculous, I just figured, ‘fuck it.’”

Chrome Division’s new video, for the song “Lady of Perpetual Sorrow.” This is easily my favorite of today’s clips. It’s not revolutionary or anything, but I enjoyed its wistful tone, and the mere fact that at no point while watching it did I have to wonder why the band had hired a kid from the local special ed program to direct it.
And we conclude today with Savage Messiah’s new video, “Hellblazer,” which features Pixie Le Knot, who a press release refers to as “Game of Thrones star.” I had no idea who she was, though, which seemed off, ’cause I’m way into Game of Thrones. So I looked it up, and she was the contortionist concubine on the most recent season. So “star” may be pushing it. Then again, she is really the only thing this video has going for it, so I understand emphasizing her presence.
Join us again next week, when we’ll check out the new Evile video, which stars the girl who played the dead body on the series premiere of True Detective!!!
