Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman Would Have Turned Fifty Today
This morning, DX Ferris, author of Slayer 66 2/3: The Jeff & Dave Years (win an autographed copy here), sent out this tweet:
Jeff Hanneman’s 50th birthday today. RIP. For your money, what’s Jeff’s finest moment?

It’s certainly worth taking another to pay homage to this departed legend (especially in light of the fact that some people haven’t paid homage at all). But his FINEST moment? Sheesh, I have no idea. You’re talking about a guy who practically invented a whole subgenre of metal, and whose riffs are destined to be ripped-off forever.
So instead of offering a finest single moment, I threw together a playlist of finest moments — specifically, every Slayer song Hanneman ever wrote. I know you’ve probably already listened to these a billion times since Hanneman’s passing last year… but you can never really have too much Hanneman, can you?
Happy birthday, Jeff. We miss you.
