Marty Friedman is a “Steroidhead”
Marty Friedman is one of the best guitarists in the history of metal, the kind of guy who’s so good that when another guitarist plays some amazing shit, other other guitarists describe said shit as “Marty Friedman-level.” Dude is just, like, inhuman.
That being said, I feel like the guy is weirdly under-appreciated today. He hasn’t been in Megadeth in fifteen years, and his career as of late has been mostly centered on the Japanese market, so he’s not exactly on the radar of kids who got into metal in the aughts.
Hopefully, Friedman’s new album, Inferno, will change that. I haven’t heard the whole thing yet, but if the rest of is as good as the first single, “Steroidhead,” then it’s pretty much gonna end up being the guitar performance to beat in 2014.
Check out “Steroidhead” below. As a bonus, it features guest appearances by Skyharbor’s Keshav Dhar and Anup Sastry.
Inferno is scheduled for a May release via Prosthetic. In addition to the Skyharbor dudes, it features guest appearances by Children of Bodom’s Alexi Laiho, Revocation’s David Davidson, and flamenco/metal acoustic duo Rodrigo y Gabriela, PLUS the first songwriting collaboration between Friedman and Jason Becker since they were Cacophony together. Stoked!
