Chon-a-Thon
I shouldn’t be writing this right now. I should be trying to figure out how the fuck I’m gonna get to L.A. in time for the Metal Masters 5 show tonight, seeing as a few measly inches of snow has scared the entirety of the U.S. commercial airline industry into a tizzy.
But then this new Chon song dropped into my inbox. We’ve been writing about this unsigned band for over four years already, but things are finally starting to pick up for them: Chon just landed a sweet gig as an opening act on the upcoming Animals as Leaders tour. And they’re timing that tour with the release of a new EP called Woohoo!, set to come out in February. AND and this new song from said EP is really sweet. So I felt obliged to write about it — stupid flight re-booking can wait.
Check out the new song “Knot” below. It’s got the guitar theatrics and chill vibe I remember liking about this band over four years ago, yet it seems that their sound has evolved since then (and since 2011) as well. It’s a bit Scale the Summit-y, but it also feels jazzier and somehow even more light-hearted and free-flowing than Scale.
And yes, I know I’ve used this headline before. For some reason it just feels so right.
