Steve Jenkins: Sick Solo Bass Playthrough Video is Sick

Bassist Steve Jenkins first caught our ear last year when Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid guests brought his trademark fuzzy skronk to a track on Jenkins’ solo album. The guy’s chops are ridiculous, so it’s no surprise he’d put together a playthrough video like this one for “Sphere” showing them way up close. Also: dat tone! So heavy, so punchy, so tight.

Jenkins isn’t necessarily a metal player, per se, but his style is heavy, and he’s clearly got some metal roots. I’d love to see what would happen if Jenkins jammed with a proper metal guy like… oh, I don’t know, Keith Merrow. Whatever fusion-metal baby those two co-birthed would be one hell of a musical nerdgasm.
