Winterherz’s Waldgeflüster Were “Welchen”
I admit it: the #1 reason I decided to check out The Deciblog’s premiere of Waldgeflüster’s “Mit welchen Fesseln” is because the name of the project made me giggle. It’s apparently an actual German word (it means “whispering forest”), so I know laughing at it is kind of ridiculous and wholly offensive. But I mean c’mon. “Waldgeflüster”? It sounds like a Monty Python creation, fer cryin’ out loud! (The fact that is actually the solo project of man who goes by the moniker “Winterherz” — which is German for “winter heart” — didn’t help my laughing fit.)
ANYWAY, I’m glad I did check out this Waldgeflüster tune, ’cause it’s actually pretty damn good! “Mit wlechen Fesseln” (“With Which Chains” — yeah there is absolutely no chance my headline makes sense, sorry) is blackened folk metal in that may best be described as a hybrid of Celeste, Enslaved, and a lot of bands that make music I normally don’t care folk for. But in this case I really like it! It’s like pagan metal for people who don’t like pagan metal.
Check out “Mit wlechen Fesseln” here. It will appear on Waldgeflüster’s Meine Fesseln (which means “my shackles”), which comes out January 10 on Blindrune.
