The Kindred - Life in Lucidity

You may remember a band called Today I Caught the Plague from a couple of years ago when they toured with Protest the Hero, Periphery and Jeff Loomis. Or maybe you just remember them because you’re already a fan and you’re cool like that.

A lot has changed since then: 1) They’ve changed their name to The Kindred (thank fuck! old name was so awkward), 2) They’ve changed their sound a little bit, 3) They’ve signed with Sumerian Records. Onwards and upwards!

The Kindred released a new song called “Heritage” while we were shut down for the winter break and it’s definitely interesting. They seem to have dropped the trace metalcore elements present in their earlier sound in favor of just focusing on the weirder parts that make them unique, which is definitely a smart move for them. I suspect this band will appeal to fans of bands like Protest the Hero, Fair to Midland and The Safety Fire — proggy metal bands that feature mostly clean singing that isn’t cheesy while still managing to sound pretty heavy. Vocalist Dave Journeaux has a bit of a Kim Benzie (Dead Letter Circus) thing going on too. I dig it.

Life in Lucidity comes out on February 25th via Sumerian. Pre-orders aren’t available yet as far as I can tell, but there’s some other merch available here.

*Do you pronounce it “in-tra-sting” or “in-ter-est-ing”? Very important question. Tell us in the comments.
