Amy Lee Sues Wind-UpAccording to TMZ, Evanescence vocalist/only member anyone can actually name, Amy Lee, has filed a lawsuit against the band’s label, Wind-Up Records. According to the gossip site, “The singer claims Wind-Up Records hatched a plot to sabotage Evanescence by replacing its promoters with a bunch of idiots who ended up torpedoing the group with lame ideas.”

Lee says in a statement:

“When I first signed with Wind-Up more than ten years ago, I was just a kid in my early 20s, and ripping-off Linkin Park and doing power ballad versions of Tori Amos songs seemed like a great idea. Well, we all have to grow up sometime, and here I am, now in my early 30s, and I can see that, yes, Evanescence is a total embarrassment. That’s not such a big deal, because we all do dumb stuff when we’re young — how many of you supported Limp Bizkit back in the day? — but I feel it was the label’s job to protect me from myself and say ‘Hey Amy, don’t do this, you’ll make a ton of money in the short run but eventually your fans will get their periods and stop caring about you.’ So I’m suing those fuckers.”

Okay, so Lee didn’t actually say any of that. But if she had, at least I’d understand why she thinks “the label all but ruined the group,” as TMZ says. Last I checked, Evanescence were MASSIVE. I wish I was as “ruined” as they are. I could be Wolf of Wall Street-ing right now.

In fact: Lee also claims in the lawsuit that the label owes her $1.5 million in royalties. That’s obviously a much less questionable reason to sue (as opposed to “YOU GAVE ME BAD CAREER ADVICE AND I WAS DUMB ENOUGH TO FOLLOW IT!!!”), but, again, it would seem to suggest that Lee and her band are doin’ a-okay. I promise you don’t nobody owe Gorguts $1.5 million right now.
