Jam TWO New Legion of the Damned Tracks if You Like Goatwhore
I’ve now heard a couple of songs from Ravenous Plague, the new album from Dutch death metallers Legion of the Damned, and this is what I keep coming back to: they remind me of Goatwhore. That’s some pretty high praise ’round the MetalSucks Mansion, and, hard though it is to believe, there aren’t that many (or any) bands out there today that ape Goatwhore. Legion of the Damned of course can’t match Goatwhore’s ultimate riff greatness and they’ve got their own flavor going on too (leaning a little towards thrash and death metal), but the slightly southern-fried riffs are there, and vocalist Maurice Swinkels’ menacing, steady delivery is a deadringer for Ben Falgoust’s.
This is the part where you tell me I’m an idiot and that the band has been around for a decade and released several albums that sound nothing like Goatwhore. OK, fine, I’m an idiot.
Check out “Summon All Hate” and “Mountain Wolves Under a Crescent Moon” below and see what you think. I happen to think they’re both quite good! Ravenous Plague comes out on January 7th via Napalm Records and can be pre-ordered here.
