Fear, Emptiness, Decibel: Noisem Star in the Latest Converse x Decibel
Before there were blogs there were these things called magazines, and the only metal magazine we still get excited about reading every month is Decibel. Here’s managing editor Andrew Bonazelli…
Baltimore’s Noisem came out of the gates with a top 10-worthy record this year in the form of ferocious death-thrash debut, Agony Defined. Decibel is getting in on the ground floor with these kids—we’re chuffed to see them starring in the latest Converse x Decibel video. It may seem uncharacteristically brief at just under three minutes, but fuck it—that’s pretty much the average length of any three-minute ripper on Agony anyway.
We profiled Noisem in the October issue, and were psyched to find their heads in the right place: talking about “meeting scene celebrities at MDF, watching Carcass’s Jeff Walker eat four vegan hot dogs in a row, and … referring to Pig Destroyer’s Blake Harrison as ‘the David Lee Roth of grindcore.’” These are our kind of people! Anyway, he CxD video is a bit more restrained and introspective. Guitarist Sebastian Phillips talks about genre pigeonholing, and frontman Tyler Carnes discusses how to infuse the death metal vokill experience with raw emotion. Take a few minutes and get split from the inside out.
The January 2014 issue of Decibel is out now, and can be purchased here. But why not just get a full subscription to ensure that you never miss an issue?
