Rivers of Nihil Bow Down at “A Fertile Altar”
Holy guacamole: Dan Seagrave’s incredible cover artwork for Rivers of Nihil’s debut album The Conscious Seed of Light is positively breathtaking, and I only continue to fall more in love with it. I found it stunning the first time I laid eyes upon it in measly computer-screen-sized .jpg form, but the band’s playthrough video for “Rain Eater” and their new lyric video for “A Fertile Altar” both utilize the artwork as a focal point, with close-up shots of all the detail in this magnificent piece’s nooks and crannies. It’s like an entire universe exists within this one snapshot, and we’ve got a bird’s eye view of the whole thing; which long-dead king lies in that mummified grave? who inhabits those pyramids? what deity lashed out upon his people and created the gnarly looking spiky tree thing? I wanna get inside this universe and explore for days. Maybe camp out by that old bridge across the gorge.
Here’s their brand new lyric video for “A Fertile Altar:”
