Lamb of God Bassist John Campbell Sitting Out Tour Dates, Matt Devries (ex-Chimaira, Fear Factory) Filling In
Matt Devries is the latest bullpen member to get the Rolaids Relief Man call for fire extinguisher duty in Lamb of God. It seems that LoG bassist John Campbell is attending to a family emergency, and since emergencies are by their very nature unplanned this stroke of bad luck came in the middle of LoG’s headline tour with Killswitch Engage. Devries, of course, was a longtime guitarist in Chimaira, briefly played bass for Six Feet Under and now holds down the low end in Fear Factory.
Here’s a photo from Instagram taken at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver on Tuesday night in which Devries is allegedly playing bass, according to photographer Niel Lim Sang, although who could really tell from this distance:
I have so much respect for guys get a frenzied call to fill in for someone on tour. Not only do they have to learn a band’s entire setlist and be able to flaw it flawlessly in a matter of days, but they’ve got to drop everything in their personal lives to make it all happen. Presumably Devries “knows” most of the setlist from when Chimaira toured with Lamb of God over the years — and even perhaps as a fan — but he never had to play any of the songs. Props! He’ll be playing three more shows with the band in Edmonton, Calgary and Saskatoon before Campbell returns. So Campbell is missing the entire Canadian portion of the tour. Sorry, Canada!
