Whores Clean Up Their Act
I don’t know what it is about Whores’ new EP Clean that’s grabbing me so much more than 2011’s Ruiner, but whatever the opposite of a sophomore slump is Whores have done it. Not that Ruiner was a slouch, by any means. Clean just seems so much more focused; the songs are more memorable, the band’s sound more developed, the production and mixing bigger and tighter (thank recording engineer Ryan Boesch [Melvins, Helmet, Tomahawk, Fu Manchu] for that last part). This is what a promising young band’s second release is SUPPOSED to be: better than their first!
Stream it all over at Pitchfork. It’s noise rock rooted in hardcore that’s filtered through a metal prism, and you’d be crazy not to like it. Those riffs, those hooks! So catchy, so headbangable.
Clean comes out on October 29th via Brutal Panda Records. The album can be pre-ordered here.
