Countdown to the Fourth Annual MetalSucks/Metal Injection CMJ Showcase: Fit For An Autopsy

The Fourth Annual MetalSucks/Metal Injection CMJ Showcase is THIS FRIDAY at The Acheron in Brooklyn! And if any of our past CMJ shows are any indication, it’s going to be the party of the goddamn year! Tickets are on sale now for just ten bucks, and the show will feature headliners Fuck the Facts along with Meek is Murder, Hivesmasher, Stomach Earth, and Fit For An Autopsy, the band that gives a good name to both deathcore and New Jersey.

The band’s 2011 debut, The Process of Human Extermination, was really good — but the band’s recently released sophomore effort, Hellbound, blows it, and a ton of this year’s other death metal releases, right out of the water. What makes it so superior? While all the adjectives so often utilized to praise death metal certain apply here — Hellbound is heavy, brutal, intense, vicious, etc. — it also has layers missing from most DM records.

“There’s not a lot of bands that throw different things into their music,” guitarist/producer Will Putney told me when I interviewed him last month. “So I  wanted to do that, and it sort of just blows by the average person, but if you listen there’s a merger of sounds in there. There’s a Queens of the Stone Age bass line, there’s a Converge riff… There’s stuff that doesn’t ‘fit’ in death metal that’s in there.”

We haven’t gotten to see the band perform any of the Hellbound material live yet, but based on their past shows and the quality of the new album, we fully expect to have our faces torn off, eaten up, shat out, eaten up again, and shat out again. We cannot wait!!!
