Full Stream: Monster Magnet Is On ‘Patrol,’ Used To Be On Acid
Hello, dear reader of MetalSucks! Say, did u feel like you spent all of Wednesday cranking full streams of awesome new metal albums? I did! And everybody I gabbed with was rushing to hang up and grind out a few more listens before the gym and dinner; that’s the time management required by yesterday’s load.
Well, today is a new day with a saner pace (we hope), so don’t panic at this recommendation that you stream the new Monster Magnet album Last Patrol (Napalm). Frontman Dave Wyndorf is a pro, so Patrol eases into a vibe and then wallops listeners with power hooks. It’s the kind of album that will sound great forever, partly because Wyndorf is like Glenn Danzig and David Lee Roth — he has a thing, a persona, a world, a language — and partly because each MM record is an hour of timeless heavy rock, nimble psychedelics, and freak-folk foreboding. It only helps that Wyndorf had some totally intense experiences with drugs; read about those, jam wildly, and then compliment Wyndorf at noon Friday as you hug him passionately at our booth at New York Comic Con!
