Before there were blogs there were these things called magazines, and the only metal magazine we still get excited about reading every month is DecibelHere’s managing editor Andrew Bonazelli…

I gotta admit—when I was tasked to write up Black Tusk’s appearance in the latest Converse x Decibel video, I totally confused them with Red Fang. There’s the “Color + Tooth Synonym” monikers; both bands do the catchy stoner/sludge thing; they’ve toured together; and they both apparently dig tongue-in-cheek videos. Just take a look at Black Tusk’s recent Red Fang-y clip for “Truth Untold.”

The only thing really separating them is 2,840 miles, the distance between Red Fang’s hometown of Portland and Black Tusk’s operating base of Savannah. And it’s the latter that’s the topic of the Converse x Decibel vid below—namely the trio’s super-cool metalworks studio therein. Bassist/vocalist Jonathan Athon, drummer/vocalist James May and guitarist/vocalist Andrew Fidler have a shitload of woodworking and carpentry equipment set up in a friend’s carriage house, and have basically taught themselves to repair and refine everything from guitars, snares and full drum kits to used beer keg smokers and grills. Watch them in action and get very jealous—and very hungry.

The November 2013 issue of Decibel features In Solitude, a Godflesh flexi, aHank 3 Q&A, and  Bad Religion Hall of Fame, and can be purchased it here. But why not just get a full subscription to ensure that you never miss an issue?
