Ex-Baroness Drummer Allen Blickle Makes Dance Music Now

Allen Blickle quit Baroness after last summer’s horrific bus crash, as did bassist Matt Maggioni. Who could blame the guys? More shocking is the fact that John Baizley and Peter Adams continued with the band and are out on the road touring again. I cannot imagine what that experience was like and what it continues to be like. Literally cannot at all imagine. Much respect.

Now Blickle has resurfaced with a new project called Alpaca, and it is completely different from Baroness. It’s got nothing whatsoever to do with metal (inb4 “Baroness is not metal” comments). It also happens to be fucking great! Check out the song “Republic” below, which sounds like a mash-up of Prince and Chromeo with Sia on vocals.

Here’s another song called “FNYC” which at least has something to do with rock music. I actually like it less than the above, although it’s still pretty cool.

New album Demimonde is out now and can be ordered on CD and vinyl here and digitally here. I’m fascinated to check it out! If it’s got more like “Republic” it’s gonna be an instant winner.
