Here’s the Full NSFW Protest the Hero Volition Album Artwork
Protest the Hero attempted to “release” their new album’s cover artwork yesterday in typically fun Protestian fashion by creating a website on which every user had a little tiny lens that uncovered just one part of the artwork, requiring hundreds of fans to work together to see the whole thing. Unfortunately things did not go as planned: the website crashed within minutes of the news of its existence going wide, unable to handle the load of hundreds of users at once (which, at the time, still wasn’t even enough to uncover the full artwork), and by the time a pared down and faster version of the website came back online some young whipper-snapper had lifted the full artwork from the web’s back end and posted it everywhere, this being the Internet and all. It was a really cool idea and well-intentioned but unfortunately the realities of the Internet got the best of it, and I’m not sure it was realistic anyway; the fact that it required several hundred users (possibly near 1,000, not sure) to load it up and then stop using their computers entirely and just… stare… at… the… screen… waiting… was a test in patience that I’m ultimately not sure metalheads would’ve been able to withstand.
Oh well. You can’t win ’em all, and Protest the Hero has pretty much won ’em all since about 2008, when they started their incredible run. It was a cool idea and it was worth a shot.
In any case that’s the full artwork you’re looking at above. Pretty neat! Dovetails nicely with the artwork we previously thought to be the cover but actually ended up being the artwork on the O-card. It was designed by Jeff Jordan.
Volition comes out on October 29th via Razor & Tie.
