Suh-Weet: Long-Lost Footage of The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Entire Set at Hellfest 2004
So. Apparently music video director Doug Spangenberg (Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Job for a Cowboy) shot footage for a DVD of Hellfest 2004. And for reasons I honestly do not know, the actual DVD never came to fruition, and the footage has been sitting in storage for the past nine years. (Spangenberg is credited with directing three other Hellfest DVDs, though.) Eventually, “not wanting the footage to go to waste,” Spangenberg “contacted Hate5six.com to bring the footage from both Hellfest 2004 and 2001 back from the dead.”
The result: we now have this super-sweet, pro-shot, fully-edited live footage of The Dillinger Escape Plan’s entire set at Hellfest in Elizabeth, NJ on July 25, 2004. That was just five days after the release of Miss Machine, the band’s second full-length album, the recording debut of vocalist Greg Puciato, and founding drummer Chris Pennie’s penultimate outing with the group.
The show is, of course, ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY FUCKNUTS, as DEP shows tend to be… but it strikes me as being even more special because it was filmed mere months before nerve damage would force co-guitarist Brian Benoit to leave the band. Also, because PUCIATO’S HAIR!!! Enjoy:
