Listen: Monster Magnet’s New “Mindless” Fun!
It’s easy to understand why writers love Dave Wyndorf: He makes our job easy. I mean, check out his comments about the forthcoming record by his awesome band Monster Magnet:
[Last Patrol‘s] songs are a kind of Space Noir, tales of cosmic revenge, peaking libidos, alienation and epic strangeness. It’s a weird trip through the back alleys of a dark retro-future, which not by coincidence very much resembles my own life [laughs]. The lyrics aren’t fantasy really, rather a recounting of my musings on, observations of, and general emotional reaction to my life and environment during a one-week writing period in February 2013; but I tend to use the vernacular and imagery of science fiction and surrealism to express myself and that’s where these lyrics get trippy.
Exciting, right? Thanks to that stellar quote, our post here is practically complete. Thanks Dave you’re the king! And now that we’re pumped about the riveting lyrics of Last Patrol (Napalm), let me take over re: the sounds of Last Patrol. Like 2010’s Mastermind, it corsets overwhelming psychedelic romps in tidy, slick sonics. So it’s like the wild but stylish brother of Dopes To Infinity (1995), he can spin a yarn but won’t baffle you with sideways digressions. He puffs a vape not a sloppy doob. His barf finds the bottom of the toilet, if you follow me. But he’s got secrets too muahaha. Anyway u will jam by October 15, but yesterday Crave Online revealed a second new song from Wyndorf and crew, the ’70s acid movie rave-up “Mindless Ones.” It is quite a trip! Crank it :))
